KUCHING: The public may be able to access and use the Sarawak Big Data in the future, says Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) General Manager Dr Zaidi Razak.
According to him, SMA has plans to enable the public to leverage on Big Data but the platform has yet to reach its maximum capability.
“We have that initiative to make the Sarawak Big Data available for the public to use but we are currently testing out to see how effective are our analytical tools.
“For instance, in terms of project management, we are developing to see the trend of the project, whether it would be a sick or successful project and so on,” he told reporters when met at the SMA Media Briefing on Digital Economy at Yayasan Sarawak Building today.
Once the analytical tools are completed, he assured that the public would be able to access and use the Big Data.
“We want the public to have an advantage on these digital economy tools that we are developing now.”
He pointed out that the public can currently access the Sarawak Open Data platform, which has been designed to give people access to open government datasets for research, application development and other purposes.
“The Open Data is a very simple platform whereby all the agencies can share the data to us and they can verify their own data and also to choose what data to remain public.
“However, for Big Data, the analytical tools are quite sensitive and if we are not careful and there is error in the big data application, it will create a bad impression.
“So right now, we have to experiment with all the data we have sourced internally before making the platform available to the public,” he said.
