Kuching – May 4, 2019 – The Right Honourable Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg launched the adoption of Sarawak Pay by KK SUPER MART here in Batu 7, Kuching today. 

Sarawak Pay is the Sarawak Government Fintech Platform under Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) provides the technology and business tools for secure, fast and convenient mobile wallet and digital payment transactions since its launch on November 2017. This also makes Sarawak to be the first State in Malaysia to be granted with E-Money license by Bank Negara. 
 

“SMA welcomes KK SUPERMART as part of Sarawak Pay ecosystem. We see the Sarawak’s investment into FinTech as strategic to position itself into the forefront of rakyat-centric Digital Economy. To-date, Sarawak Pay now has over 65,000 registered users and 2,000 registered merchants statewide. We can now leverage on this user base and the digital infrastructure as well as our technopreneur development programmes to take E-Commerce to all corners of Sarawak, to serve all Sarawakians, urban and rural alike.”, said Dr Zaidi bin Razak, General Manager of Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
 

Under the Sarawak Economy Strategy 2018-2025 (E-Commerce: Action 25) the Sarawak State Government through SMA will create a FinTech platform that provides technological and business tools to secure a competitive advantage in current and future markets.

As of today, 8 KK SUPER MART outlets in Kuching, 12 in Peninsular Malaysia, Slimming Sanctuary Beauty Saloon and Clara International Beauty Saloon outlets in Kuching are already registered merchants. In a month time, companies under KK Group of Companies including in several industry lines like Baiwago Plus Café (bread and pastries café), KK Hotel, KK Kopitiam, KK Food Court, KK Freshmart, KK Motosports, KK Badminton Court and many more over in Peninsular Malaysia will soon be registered as Sarawak Pay merchants. 

Future promotion events for Sarawak Pay includes Raya Ramadhan Bazaar, Rain Forest World Music Festival, Borneo Cultural Festival, Kuching Festival, Kuching Marathon, and many more.
